The 9th International Course ICENS 2025 has been held in Moscow

On May 15 –16, 2025, the 9th International Conference on Endovascular NeuroSurgery “ICENS 2025” was held in Moscow under the auspices of the Russian Endovascular Neuro Society. Official venue of the conference was at the premises of the Federal Center of Brain Research and Neurotechnologies of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency.

This year, the conference was held in honor of Professor Yuri Zubkov, an outstanding Russian neurosurgeon. The principles and approaches established by Professor Zubkov still stand as the foundation for management of cerebrovascular patients, and his body of work dedicated to the multifaceted treatment of cerebrovascular diseases continues to be recognized and respected worldwide.

The ICENS scientific program featured presentations by leading experts in interventional neuroradiology, neurology, and endovascular neurosurgery from Russia, Germany, Denmark, India, Spain, Kazakhstan, China, the United States, France, and Croatia. Special sessions were devoted to endovascular treatment of vascular diseases such as strokes, arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms, dural fistulas, and others. Particular attention was drawn to presentations detailing the use of computer technologies and artificial intelligence in the treatment of cerebrovascular pathologies.

“The ICENS scientific program was developed not only in accordance with current recommendations for the use of endovascular diagnostic and treatment methods, but also, and most importantly, in response to the demands of the modern society and the medical community in particular. That is why this year’s conference placed special emphasis on the use of new products in endovascular surgery, including the most advanced high-tech systems, computer technologies, and artificial intelligence. We are confident that the review, discussion, and, most certainly, implementation of cutting-edge techniques will be instrumental in achieving excellent treatment outcomes in patients with cerebrovascular diseases,” said Professor Kirill Orlov, MD, President of ICENS.

The participants showed great interest in the traditional live surgeries, during which the experts demonstrated the use of innovative surgical techniques in intricate clinical cases. The live broadcasts allowed the audience to not only observe their colleagues at work and learn from their experience, but also communicate in real time with leading top-qualified surgeons, ask questions, and receive personalized answers from the experts.

“The ICENS conference brings together neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, and neurologists, who are committed to giving the best of treatments to the patients with vascular nervous system diseases at both the brain and spinal cord levels. It is encouraging that the new methods and approaches we are discussing here will be practiced in hospitals in a matter of days helping our patients overcome their illnesses and lead dignified and fulfilling lives,” emphasized Professor Alexander Savello, MD, Chief Specialist in endovascular diagnostics and treatment of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, and Deputy Head of the Neurosurgery Department at the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The event was attended by 117 specialists in endovascular neurosurgery from Russia, the CIS, and other countries.

The scientific and educational events organized under the auspices of RENS aim to foster close collaboration between leading endovascular neurosurgeons and other related physician specialists with clinical and research centers for the benefit of advancing endovascular treatment methods and thus highlighting the need for continued joint efforts on the part of leading centers and professional communities.

We at the Russian Endovascular Neuro Society express our sincere gratitude to our colleagues and partners for their support in organizing this event!
